Hollywood, CA–Billboard recording artist Ashley Paul is opening a new chapter in her career with “I Just Had to Fall,” an intimate new single that moves her sound beyond the dance floor and into the sophisticated worlds of jazz and adult contemporary music.
Now available through Dauman/Universal, the original song places Paul’s voice and emotional storytelling at the center. Rather than relying on the driving electronic production associated with much of her earlier work, “I Just Had to Fall” reveals a warmer and more vulnerable side of the singer.
For Paul, the release is more than a stylistic experiment. It serves as the opening note in a broader musical evolution that will include new recordings, a live trio, and an upcoming New York performance built around classic songs and personal storytelling.
Paul first gained international attention through dance, pop, and EDM releases, earning radio play, chart recognition, and a growing streaming audience. Songs including “Bingo Baby,” “Hearts Up,” “When Boys Cry,” “Body Language,” “Finding Rhythm,” and “Ribbons” established her as an energetic contemporary performer.
“I Just Had to Fall” shows that Paul is ready to explore what happens when the tempo slows down and the voice has more room to lead.
The single is also expected to reach Smooth Jazz radio, with an alternate mix scheduled for release in August. That version will offer another glimpse of how Paul is reshaping her sound while maintaining the emotional accessibility that has connected her with listeners across several genres.
Her next group of recordings will be developed with Bizkit and Butta, the Philadelphia production duo known for their work with John Legend. The four time Grammy nominated and Soul Train Award winning producers helped create Legend’s Billboard number one hit “Tonight.”
Working with the duo gives Paul an opportunity to deepen her move into jazz influenced and adult contemporary music while preserving the polish and immediacy of her pop background.
That evolution will also come to life through the Ashley Paul Trio, a new recording and performance project combining original material with timeless standards.
The trio’s planned recordings include new interpretations of “Fever” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” along with original songs from Paul’s growing catalog. The combination should allow Paul to move naturally between familiar classics and songs that reflect her own experiences as a songwriter and recording artist.
The project could also introduce Paul to listeners who may know her dance records but have not yet experienced her as a traditional live vocalist.
Audiences will get that opportunity on December 29, when Paul presents “Hearts Up After Dark” at 54 Below in New York City.
The intimate show will bring together contemporary pop, jazz influences, classic standards, and original music in a setting designed to emphasize Paul’s personality and connection with the audience.
The evening is expected to feature “Bingo Baby,” “Hearts Up,” “Fever,” “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” and additional selections from her catalog.
While many artists attempt to reinvent themselves by abandoning the sound that first attracted an audience, Paul appears to be taking a more natural approach. She is not leaving her pop career behind. She is expanding the range of what that career can include.
Her dance releases remain an important part of her musical identity, but “I Just Had to Fall” suggests that the next phase will be defined by a closer relationship between the singer, the song, and the listener.
It is a move that feels less like a sudden transformation and more like an artist revealing a side of herself that was waiting for the right moment.
